50 years | Lindsey Vonn | FIS Alpine

Born in St. Paul, MI, United States on Oct. 18th, 1984, Lindsey Caroline Vonn, née Kildow, is arguably to be considered the greatest female skier of all-time. She has won four World Cup overall titles, one of only two female skiers to do so, along with Austria’s Annemarie Moser-Pröll, with three consecutive titles (2008-2010) and a fourth one in 2012. Vonn won the gold medal in downhill at the 2010 Winter Olympics, the first ever in the event for an American woman and she holds the record for most discipline titles in the Downhill (2008–2013, 2015, 2016), plus five titles in super-G (2009–2012, 2015), and three consecutive titles in the combined (2010–2012). In 2016 she won her 20th World Cup crystal globe title – an all-time record among men or women, passing Ingemar Stenmark of Sweden, who won 19 globes from 1975 to 1984. Vonn is also one of six women with World Cup wins in all five disciplines and has collected 77 World Cup triumphs so far, an all-time women's record, passing Annemarie Moser-Pröll record of 62 wins on Jan. 19th. 2015 in Cortina. Only Ingemar Stenmark of Sweden with 86 World Cup victories has more. Vonn made her World Cup debut in 2000 but she had to wait until Jan. 2004 to record her first podium finish. Her maiden World Cup win dated back Dec. 2004 in the DH at Lake Louise. Vonn suffered many severe injuries during her career, the most horrific at the 2013 World Championships in Schladming, Austria, where she crashed in the super-G, tearing anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in her right knee, plus a tibial plateau fracture. After spending 10 months out, the US ace reinjured her surgically repaired right knee in a Colorado training crash ahead of her return to racing and was ruled out for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. Her combined tally at Worlds’ and WOG includes 7 medals (2-3-2). Vonn returned again to World Cup racing after an injury-plagued 2016, by finishing 13th in a downhill at Altenmarkt-Zauchensee on Jan. 16 and six days later she scored her 77th World Cup win in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Vonn married fellow 2002 Olympian and former U.S. Ski Team athlete Thomas Vonn in 2007 and the couple divorced on January 9, 2013. Vonn made headlines in 2012 when she met golfer superstar Tiger Woods at a charity event. They started dating in March 2013 before splitting in May 2015.
