A double doubleheader awaits Olympic Alpine

The Olympic action at YongPyong will have to wait another day as the women's slalom had to be postponed today due to strong winds.

The race has been rescheduled for Friday with the first run at 10:00 KST and the second run at 13:15.

This means that for two consecutive days, the world will be treated to two full days of alpine skiing action. Thursday’s race program includes the first run of the women's giant slalom at 10:00, the men’s downhill at 11:30, and the second run of women's giant slalom at 13:45.

Meanwhile, Friday’s program will feature the men’s super-G at 11:00 in addition to the rescheduled women's slalom with runs at 10:00 and 13:15.  The two events are staged at different venues with all Olympic speed races taking place at Jeongseon, while tech events are staged at YongPyong.

After the morning inspection there was some hope that today's planned slalom could be staged as scheduled, but conditions worsened as the morning wore on. After two delays, it was decided to postpone the race.

FIS Race Director Atle Skaardal said of the postponement, “We had hoped to be able to get today’s race completed as scheduled, but it became clear that the winds were simply too strong to guarantee a fair and safe competition. The forecast for both Thursday and Friday looks very promising as sunny skies and low winds are predicted.”
