Study trip to the Tour de France
Aug 31, 2018·Alpine SkiingBetween two summer inspections, Alpine Race Director and men’s World Cup Coordinator Emmanuel Couder was able to visit the Tour de France to learn more about their data and graphics processing.
As customary during the warmer months, Race Directors are visiting the different Audi FIS Ski World Cup sites to prepare the upcoming winter 2018/19, reviewing the courses, preparation and the organisational aspects together with the Organising Committees.
Couder, is also working on another aspect of the World Cup: the data collection and its use for TV graphics. To learn more about the process and analyse different options, he visited the most important cycling race of the World, the Tour de France, during its stop in “La Rosière”.
“The International Ski Federation is reflecting about the use of data, so I contacted Armaury Sport Organisation (ASO, the organiser of the Tour de France) to observe their data processing during the event,” said Emmanuel Couder. “ASO is very advanced in that area and we can learn a lot from them.”
The idea is to collect a variety of data during the race and to show it to the public in real time via TV graphics. The results of this research could be very useful in order to improve the live alpine data system initiated with the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup data & timing partner Longines two years ago.
