Goldberg and Maple fastest in training in Val Gardena
Aug 31, 2018·Alpine SkiingVal Gardena / Gröden is hosting the Audi FIS Ski World Cup for the 50th time, and besides the great show the organizing committee put together for Friday evening, two exciting races will be held on the Saslong course again this year: a super-g on Friday and a downhill on Sunday.
Unfortunately, there were some issues related to the overnight snowfall in the upper section that would not allow a fair and safe race for the 96 participants in this first downhill training, so the start had to be moved down to the super-g start.
Today, the first downhill training was held and the American athletes were the ones who tackled the course the best. Jared Goldberg and Wiley Maple, two young guns of the American downhillers team finished respectively in 1st and 2nd position, attacking from the back with bib numbers 30 and 56 (!). Thomas Dressen from Germany, who claimed his first World Cup podium in the downhill in Beaver Creek two weeks ago, finished in third place.
Tomorrow, another training run is scheduled at 12h15, before the World Cup turns into race mode again for the super-g on Friday and the downhill on Saturday in Val Gardena / Gröden.
