Kitzbuehel is one of the most legendary course on the World Cup Tour, with technical sections, long flats, some very steep parts and many jumps and bumps.

On this first official downhill training on the Streif, Italian Christof Innerhofer tackled the course the best and clocked the fastest time in 1:55:46. Only three days after a heavy crash on the Lauberhorn downhill in Wengen, the South Tyrolean shows that he feels good on this tough and challenging course. Last year, Innerhofer was still recovering from a crash in Santa Caterina when he came back in Kitzbuehel to podium in the super-g. In the downhill, he recorded a 5th place (2014) and three 6th places (2009, 2011, 2015) so far.

Steven Nyman suffered a torn ACL last season in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and his on his way back on the World Cup Tour. After two participations in Val Gardena and Wengen, the North American impressed with a strong training run on the Streif, giving him the second place of the day. Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and Italy’s Matteo Marsaglia (bib nr 57!) are tied in third place.

Many athletes didn’t appreciate the conditions, with very fast snow and changing visibility conditions. Their main point was that the jumps, especially Mausefalle and Alte Schneise are too big. The weather forecast being pretty unfavorable tomorrow, with wind and snowfall, it looks like the second training will be scheduled on Thursday, which gives the Organisier plenty of time to reevaluate and adapt some sections.
