Jens Byggmark concludes his career

Sweden’s athlete Jens Byggmark has taken the difficult decision to end his skiing career due to a painful knee that prevents him from performing at his best level.

Back in 2013, the slalom specialist tore his ligament, which forced him to sit out the complete 2013/14 season. This injury was followed by a long struggle to come back to the top, but the recovery never seemed to be complete. Byggmark had to interrupt the recently concluded World Cup one month earlier, because his knee’s strength and stability dropped gradually until he felt he could no longer charge it as you need to in professional skiing.

After ten years on the World Cup Tour, the 31 year-old athlete from Tarnaby took the difficult decision to retire.

Byggmark’s career was marked by not less than eight World Cup podiums, earned between 2007 and 2014. It started with two impressive performances in 2007 in Kitzbuehel, where he was unbeatable on two consecutive days on the legendary Ganslern Hang! In that season, his first on the World Cup Tour, he finished on the 3rd place of the slalom standings, behind the legends Beni Raich and Mario Matt.

Another highlight of his successful career was indubitably his second place at the World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 2011. He also earned a silver medal in the team event at home in Are in 2007.
