Matteo Marsaglia fastest on the Streif

The second and final training for the famous Hahnenkamm downhill in Kitzbuehel took place today on the Streif. Due to overnight snowfall and to preserve the lower part of the course, the finish line had to be moved up to Europa Cup finish, above the Hausberg jump.

Coming from the back with bib Nr. 54, Italian Matteo Marsaglia laid down the fastest time today. The winner of the Beaver Creek super-g in 2012 suffered several injuries that slowed him down in the past seasons, including an ACL tear contracted at the Olympic test evens in Jeongseon in 2016. Third in the training yesterday and first today, Matteo Marsaglia could be an insider tip for the downhill in Kitzbuehel.

In second positions, Frenchman Brice Roger was only one hundredth behind Marsaglia. The attacking croissant, who could celebrate one super-g podium in Meribel in 2015 in his career so far, was fast especially in the Seidlalm section and in the Lärchenschuss.

The Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr finished third of today’s final training run. This performance puts him in the favorites for tomorrow’s super-g and for the downhill on Sunday. The Carinthian claimed his first World Cup win this season in the super-g of Beaver Creek and equaled his two career bests in the downhill with a sixth place in Wengen and in Beaver Creek.

Can this surprise podium carry on for the two upcoming race days? Tomorrow, the super-g is scheduled at 11.30 and the Hahnenkamm downhill is planned on Saturday at 11.30.
