The alpine skiing events of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, were scheduled to kick off on Sunday with the highly anticipated men’s downhill. Very strong winds, with gusts up to 72 kilometers per hour, that are expected to continue all day have forced the jury together with POCOG to postpone the event as originally scheduled at Jeongseon Alpine Centre.

Based on the official forecast, the men's alpine combined downhill training run scheduled for Monday has been cancelled. The alpine combined race will remain as originally scheduled on Tuesday.

After the postponement of the downhill, a committee comprised of IOC, POCOG, and FIS officials met to determine a future date for the Olympic men's downhill. It will take place on Thursday 15 February, starting at 11:30 KST. The super-G that was originally planned on that day is rescheduled on the reserve day, Friday 16 February at 11:00.

Following the three training runs – led by Manuel Osborne-Paradis (CAN), Christof Innerhofer (ITA), and Vincent Kriechmayr (AUT) – the Olympic downhill course is in excellent condition. When weather and scheduling permits, the men's Olympic downhill is sure to be a spectacular race.
