Slovenian Alpine Championships 2018

On this week-end, the Slovenians started the second part of their National Championships. Krvavec, a the second-largest ski resort in Slovenia, 25km North of Ljubljana, is the host of all the competitions, that started with the tech events and the downhill before Easter, to conclude with the super-g and alpine combined the week after.
In the slalom, younggun Meta Hrovat finished in first ahead of Ana Bucik and could celebrate a first national champion title, after the claimed a first World Cup podium this season in the giant slalom at Lenzerheide. Stefan Hadalin took the title on the men’s side. The best Slovenian slalom skier almost cracked the Top 30 in the slalom standings and earned a career best result on the World Cup with a 13th place in front of his home crowd in Kranjska Gora this season.
With a third place behind Nadine Fest (AUT) and Alex Tilley (GBR), the 20 years old ski racer Meta Hrovat also walks away with the title in the giant slalom. On the men’s side, favorite Zan Kranjec did not finish the second run and the title went to Zan Groselj.
The downhill, that was held in two runs just before Easter, was won by NNevena Ignjatovic (SRB), but again, Meta Hrovat claimed the Slovenian champion title with a strong performance in a disciplines she’s been racing in only 9 times! Martin Cater was able to defend his title on the men’s side. The athlete from Celje cracked the Top 30 in that the downhill this season and was able to maintain himself in the Top 30 in super-g and alpine combined as well.
Sunday was dedicated to the super-g and a surprise came on the ladies’ side, where junior Neja Dvornik (year of birth 2001!) was able to win the race (when she raced in only 8 super-g in career so far) and take the Slovenian Champion title. Martin Cater claimed the men’s super-g title, finishing 5th in a strong field with lots of World Cup athletes.
The National Championships in Krvavec, Slovenia concluded with the alpine combined on Monday, where Neja Dvornik and Stefan Hadalin were able to finish their season on a positive note with the Slovenian champion title.
