Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals in Soldeu
Mar 13, 2019·Alpine SkiingThe season 2018/19 of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup is almost over as the Tour moved to Andorra for the Finals in Grandvalira Soldeu El Tarter. The 25 best female and male athletes of each discipline will compete successively in downhill, super-g, giant slalom and slalom on the Aliga (speed) and Avet (tech) courses. An alpine team event will also be held on Friday.
Even if as in the past two years both Mikaela Shiffrin and Marcel Hirscher have secured the Overall globe before the World Cup Finals, some discipline standings are still up for grab. For example in the speed disciplines, the fight for the Crystal globe will come to a close on Wednesday for the downhill, and on Thursday for the super-g.
In the ladies’ downhill, Austrian could theoretically swipe the Cup podium, as Nicole Schmidhofer (444 points) and Ramona Siebenhofer (354 points) are fighting for the globe, while Stephanie Venier is sitting in fourth not far behind with 340 points, behind Ilka Stuhec who is injured. On the men’s side, last year’s globe winner Beat Feuz is leading the standings with 500 points and Dominik Paris needs overcome the 80 points gap in tomorrow’s race if he wants to claim his first globe in career.
The super-g standings are wide open for both genders. Dominik Paris (330), Vincent Kriechmayr (286), Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (267), Kjetil Jansrud (266), Matthias Mayer (255) and Mauro Caviezel (244) are still in the fight. On the ladies’ side, the globe will go to Mikaela Shiffrin (300), Tina Weirather (268) or Nicole Schmidhofer (253).
Already, the local organising committee has made quite an impression with an outstanding course preparation and smooth operations and we are now looking forward to an exciting racing week in Andorra.
