European Cup races confirmed at the Lauberhorn

Thanks to the engagement of numerous helpers, the 80 European Cup athletes were able to train on the Lauberhorn today. Tomorrow and on Saturday, two downhills will be held in Wengen.

The last days and nights have been very busy for the LOC staff, the Swiss Army and the civil protection, as they all teamed up to clean the course of the big amount of fresh snow that fell on the downhill course and to make it race ready for today. “All the people on the hill did a fantastic job to render today’s training possible,” praised the president of the Organising Committee Urs Näpflin.

As per tradition, Wengen hosts two European Cup downhills on the week before the World Cup races. This allows younger athletes to discover and test the longest downhill course in the world, which is an important step for the athletes and a very appreciated opportunity offered by the Organizing Committee of the Lauberhorn since 2009.

So on Friday and Saturday, athletes like Mattia Casse (ITA), who was the fastest in the training run, Gilles Roulin (SUI), Bostjan Kline (SLO), Valentin Giraud-Moine (FRA) and Adrian Smiseth Sejersted (NOR) will be able to race on the World Cup track, from the original start to the Wasserstation. Let’s see who handles the key sections Hundschopf, Canadian corner and Kernen-S the best.
