Green light for the World Cup in Levi
Nov 08, 2018·Alpine SkiingDespite the very warm months leading into autumn, Levi is ready for the Audi FIS Ski World Cup 2018/19 - FIS gives green light for World Cup Levi
Less than ten days to go for the Levi World Cup. Although the race hill has had the white cover already for weeks now, the race needs official approval from the International Ski Federation FIS. Today FIS gave the green light: amount of snow is good and the race is on.
Last spring 40 000 cubed meters of snow were stored and the snow mass was leveled successfully in October. At the moment the slope consists of 80% of stored snow and 20% of manmade snow from this season. Last weekend the race organizers injected the slope Levi Black, which means that the surface is iced hard by water. The night temperatures below zero guarantee that the slope stays almost icy for the slalom race 17.-18.11.
Petri Tuomikoski, who is the Chief of Race for Levi World Cup, has been involved himself in the water injection of the slope.
The slope Levi Black has been closed from training, since we want to secure its' condition as good as possible for the race. Even though the race hill is in principle ready for the race, we monitor the conditions daily, explains Chief of Race Petri Tuomikoski.
Today Petri Tuomikoski, Chíef of race - OC Levi is able to confirm the races on the official snow control date. FIS Professionals are in trust with the LOC that everything is under control and so it was not necessary to send external controller to Lapland ahead of the race week.
Levi mountain management can be very proud. Only with all the efforts they put in, this is possible. Snow-farming over the past years, maximum investments in snowmaking capacity and of course the passion to the ski sport. Sure there is still lots of work ahead for the organizing team, it is always very important to get this official green light. Now it is full power time for all involved parties and final preparation time for the teams, sums alpine race director Markus Mayr from FIS the efforts of Levi.
The Ladies slalom on Saturday 17.11. starts the twelfth Levi World Cup with the opening run at 11:15. On Sunday 18.11. the alpine men open their season with the first race in Levi due to the cancellation of the Sölden World Cup two weeks ago due to heavy snow fall.
