The first Men's World Cup DH training on the Stelvio in Bormio announced that the race of Friday will be a fascinating one. The rain of the past days and the cold temperatures turned into a very icy base layer, that goes from top to bottom of the course. The Stelvio is well known for being one of the toughest course on the World Cup Tour, with dark light and lots of bumps and this year it is even more demanding than in the past.

One athlete definetly likes when downhill is a fight down the mountain. It's Christof Innerhofer. Today, he laid down the fastest time in the first training, even though he missed a gate. He is followed by Austrian Daniel Hemetsberger and USA's Ryan Cochran-Sigele.

Here we are with a few words by the protagonists.

I'm happy, but I have to be honest: I missed a gate but this DH training satisfied me, I found a great feeling with it - without taking time into consideration. I've always liked Stelvio but this time it was like a war to face it. What we found there is the first, real fast snow of the season, we just have to get used to itChristof Innerhofer (ITA), winner of today's training run
I confess: I struggled. It's a difficult and tiring DH, but that's okay. Bormio is the beginning of the most difficult and real DH races of the season.Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (NOR), winner of the last downhill this season
Wow, that ice! Stelvio has always been a difficult one, but this year it's even more difficult. Skis slammed a lot all the way down. I tried to push in most of the important parts, but in some situations I lost the line I wanted to follow and that was because of the vibrations of the skis.Dominik Paris (ITA), winner of the last downhill in Bormio
