Sofia Goggia to miss season start with ankle injury

The 2017/18 World Cup and Olympic downhill champion Sofia Goggia of Italy will miss the start of the 2018/19 season after sustaining an ankle injury during training in Hintertux, Austria, on Friday.
Goggia was preparing for the opening race of the season – next week's giant slalom in Sölden – when she fell during training. FISI Medical Commission doctors Andrea Panzeri and Herbert Schoenhuber diagnosed a fracture in the right ankle which will keep the Italian star off snow until January. No surgery is required at this time, and Goggia will follow a conservative rehabilitation plan over the next 4-5 weeks while the bone heals.
She will miss the opening giant slalom race in Sölden and also the speed season openers in Lake Louise, Canada, at the beginning of December. The Killington GS, St. Moritz super-G, Val d'Isere speed races, Courchevel GS, and Semmering GS races are all likely to be contested without Goggia at the start.
