In the shadow of the imposant Saslong, the downhill course of Val Gardena Gröden will be hosting not less than four World Cup events this year.

The last two days saw the men’s World Cup Tour take possession of the track with two downhill runs. On Wedneday, the US team laid down an impressive team performance, with Travis Ganong leading the pack and two other American Downhillers in the Top 5: Bryce Bennett finished 3rd and Thomas Biesemeyer 5th. Only Max Franz, winner of the downhill in 2016 and 3rd last year, and Italy’s Christof Innerhofer were able to follow the pace, ranking respectively 2nd and 4th.

Today, the second and last training run took place and Max Franz is the one who set the fastest time. He is followed by Steven Nyman, who celebrated his three World Cup wins on this course, and last years’ downhill globe winner Beat Feuz.

On Friday, the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Tour will switch to super-g mode for one day, with a race starting at 12:00 CET, and the downhill will be held on Saturday, starting at 11:45 CET.

After this, and for the first time since 1975, Val Gardena Gröden will organize ladies’ World Cup events on the Saslong. The Italian resort took over the races cancelled in Val d’Isère. A downhill will be held on the 18th December and a super-g on the 19th December 2018.
