The second of three downhill trainings took place under a light snowfall in Lake Louise today. Progressively, the speed athletes get back into race mode and pick up the rhythm again, in anticipation of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup speed week-end in Lake Louise.

Last year’s downhill globe winner, who also won the race in Lake Louise and took a bronze medal in that event at PyeongChang 2018, posted the fastest time in the second training. With bib number 19, he had a little bit of an advantage as the track became faster, but that alone doesn’t explain that he finished +1.17 ahead of his contenders. In second place, the South Tyrolean Dominik Paris was very happy with his run and hopes to repeat his feat of 2013, as he won the downhill in Lake Louise. The surprise of the day came from Austria’s Johannes Kroell. Good results last season (best: 15th DH Kvitfjell) allowed him to start within the Top 30 this season and he seems determined to use this opportunity as he finished at the 11th place yesterday and on the virtual podium today.

Another training run will take place tomorrow before Lake Louise kicks off the speed season with a downhill on Saturday and a super-g on Sunday.
