Unbelievable comeback by Stefan Luitz in Beaver Creek

The race weekend in Beaver Creek concluded with  a fairy tale comeback by Stefan Luitz, who took the giant slalom win ahead of Marcel Hirscher (AUT) and Thomas Tumler (SUI).

December 2017, Alta Badia. After scoring to World Cup podiums in Beaver Creek and Val d'Isère, Germany's Stefan Luitz tore his ACL. Another season ending injury, another recovery phase ahead. But Luitz didn't lose his motivation, he keept his goal in sight: getting back on the World Cup. Today on the Birds of Prey, Luitz completed his mission, getting his first career World Cup victory.

Even Hirscher couldn't keep up with the pace set by Luitz, finishing in second +0.14 off the winning time.

In third place, another surprise came from Thomas Tumler. The Swiss racer was only 21st after the first run, but an amazing second leg, where he had the fastest time in all the splits, brought him to his first career World Cup podium.

The men's World Cup Tour now moved back to Europe for a weekend of tech races in Val d'Isère.
