During the traditional FIS spring meetings, Club 5 held its bi-annual workshop gathering its 17 members in Cavtat/Dubrovnik, with the aim of exchanging ideas and discussing important topics related to the organization of a World Cup event.

This year agenda included general discussions about Club5 placement within FIS. The focus of Club5 workshop involved race insurance, prize money, data protection, on-course safety and the reduction of participants at the World Cup Races.

The workshop ended in a productive way thanks to the interesting presentations of Club5 members and the attractive speeches came from the athletes’ representatives, experts from FIS and from other different companies.

LOC Club5 members, Markus Waldner and Markus Mayr from FIS, NOI Techpark Südtirol / Alto Adige and Padova University discussed in deep the Safety topic and they want to make concrete steps forward in this direction. To give practical effect to these discussions, next week they will test new materials on the Saslong slope in Val Gardena in term of Safety.

We have seen once again that the importance of workshops goes above and beyond the presentations and discussions held in the meeting rooms. They offer to the OCs the opportunity to build personal relations and friendships in order to achieve confidence and share know-how.

In the past years, the organization became more important and it represented the interests of the FIS Alpine World Cup organizers. Currently, it includes the following 17 classic World Cup organizers: Kitzbühel, Wengen, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Val D’Isere, Val Gardena Gröden, Alta Badia, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Kranjska Gora, Maribor, Lake Louise, Schladming, Adelboden, Kvitfjell, St. Moritz, Are and Zagreb, as well as Crans-Montana as an affiliated member. Together with about ten representatives from FIS, over 50 members of Organizing Committees were attending the workshop this spring.
