Peter Gerdol to succeed Atle Skaardal as women's Race Director
Jun 03, 2019·Alpine SkiingThe women's Alpine World Cup tour will have a major change in the upcoming season as Atle Skaardal will shift roles after serving as Chief Race director role for the last 14 years.
The two-time world champion in super-G will become the FIS Alpine Technical Expert for big projects as Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Game and the FIS Alpine World Ski Championship and future candidates. Another big task will be working with the Injury Surveillance System.
Atle passes the torch to current FIS Continental Cup Coordinator Peter Gerdol (SLO), who said, “I’m very pleased and honored that FIS believe in my skills and gave me the opportunities to make a big step forward in my career” says Gerdol. “Taking over Atle Skaardal’s position as Chief Women's Race Director it’s a big challenge but I’m highly motivated to keep the high quality Alte and the team built in the past over 15 years.
Peter has served as the FIS Alpine Continental Cup Coordinator since 2014. Prior to joining FIS he was Race Department Manager in Tarvisio where he also led the technical organisation of FIS Women’s World Cup competitions in 2007, 2009 and 2011, the FIS World Junior Championships: Alpine in 2002 and Nordics in 2007, the Winter Universiade in 2003, annual FIS European Cup competitions and numerous FIS races. Peter is fluent in Slovenian, Italian, German, English, Spanish, French.
"Taking part to the summer inspections will be my first step so I will get in touch with all the organizers I don’t know yet and preparing the path for the next season at the best. One of my first goal is integrating myself with my future team composed by Jean-Philippe Vulliet Race Director World Cup Women's Speed Events, Markus Mayr Race Director World Cup Women's Technical Events, Andreas Krönner Technical Operations Manager, Alpine Women's and the new media coordinator Giulia Candiago," said Gerdol.
"I will listen and observe what the market and the stakeholders are requesting with the purpose to create long-term value into the Ladies World Cup.”
