Marta Bassino claims first World Cup victory

The Italian flag was on display at the Killington Audi FIS World Cup finish area with two Italian skiers on the podium.
Marta Bassino notched her first World Cup win launching her day with an attacking first run of 49.05 sec on a course shortened due to gusting winds.
Bassino recorded the third-fastest time on her second run for a total of 1min 38.19 sec to win by 26-hundredths of a second.
Federica Brignone, the winner of the Killington giant slalom last year, clocked the quickest second run, climbing the ranking by six places finishing with her 20th career podium.
Home favourite Mikaela Shiffrin skied in front of enthusiastic home fans, settled for third place with a combined time of 1:38.48. Shiffrin remains in search of a first giant slalom win at Killington, where she has won three slalom races.
The young New Zealander Alice Robinson, who won the season-opening giant slalom in Soelden, failed to finish the first run. Robinson surprised all with her presence in Killington after a bone bruise in her left knee. She decided to take part in the second Giant Slalom of the season after the all-clear message from the doctors.
The women race a slalom at Killington on Sunday with the first run starting at 9:45 EST and the second run at 13:00 EST.
