Shiffrin takes two out of three in Bansko

The Bulgarian weekend in Bansko ended with the super g race for the women's world cup. A technical slope can only have a technical and turny course setting and, once again, the skiers with excellent giant slalom skills have got the better of it.

The first Super G victory for Mikaela Shiffrin arrived two days after Bansko's downhill one on the same slope marking the first time that she won two speed events in the same weekend, her last win in the discipline coming in January 2019 in Cortina.
It was Shiffrin's first win in the discipline since clinching the super-G world title in February, and she went top of the season standings. Now she sits just one victory behind now-retired Austrian Marcel Hirscher's 67 World Cup wins, bettered only by Vonn and Swedish legend Ingemar Stenmark (86).

Marta Bassino (ITA) with bib number 6, led until the American winner come and she finished o.29 seconds behind concluding her fantastic weekend with a one-two second place and a top 5 that permitted her to sit in fourth overall.

Lara Gut-Behrami (SUI) come back exactly where she left off one year ago in Garmisch Partenkirchen, in third place, she was finally back on podium by 0.70 behind Bassino. 
Federica Brignone was leading by 0.08 at the final split time, but the Italian lost her balance as she hooked a gate and slid off the course. Viktoria Rebensburg, who led the discipline standings going into the race, finished 12th.

Mikaela Shiffrin now leads the overall standing with 1,225 points, with Italian Federica Brignone second (855) and Petra Vlhova is in third (830). The win also saw Shiffrin leapfrog five places to go top of the super-G standings, on 186 points, ahead of Swiss Corinne Suter (150) and Germany's Viktoria Rebensburg (148).
