Südtirol Ski Trophy - the award for World Cup races in Val Gardena and Alta Badia

The skier with the highest points total from the four races held in South Tyrol will be awarded the prize on 23 December. The Südtirol Ski Trophy, the only title in World Cup history specifically for races in a single region, is now a firm fixture and will be awarded again this year.

Twenty-seven-year-old Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde won the title for two consecutive years – in 2017 and 2018. Together with Kjetil Jansrud, who took the trophy in 2016, Kilde has a place of honour in the Hall of Fame at the Saslonch mountain hut on the Ciampinoi, where life-size wooden busts of the two
champions are on display.

The trophy, the only one of its kind, was launched in 2016 as the idea of Arno Kompatscher, President of the Province of Bolzano. The trophy is awarded to the athlete who gains the most points in four World Cup races: the downhill race and Super-G on the Saslong in Val Gardena, and the giant slalom and parallel giant slalom on the Gran Risa in Alta Badia. To be eligible to win the trophy, racers must take part in at least one race in Val Gardena and one in Alta Badia.

The parallel giant slalom in Alta Badia on 23 December is mandatory because the winner is announced at the end of this race. The winner will take home a 20,000-euro cash prize. The prize also includes a wooden bust made with 3D laser scanning by a local company in Ortisei and the chance to prepare a special dish with Michelin-starred chef Nicola Laera from the La Stüa de Michil restaurant in Corvara.
