Val D'Isere Women's Downhill Rescheduled
Dec 21, 2019·Alpine SkiingThe snow seems to love Val D'Isere's valley, and it doesn't seem to want to leave. Unfortunately, the first race scheduled for the women's speed weekend in the French Alps has been cancelled due to unfavourable course conditions.
The start of the race was initially pushed back two hours following heavy overnight snowfall which meant extra time was needed to clear the Oreiller-Killy.
However, the persistent snowfall hampered the clear-up and led to the cancellation of the race after the decision taken by the jury together with the local organising committee.
FIS Chief Race Director of the Women's World Cup Peter Gerdol noted the complexity of the situation: "Unfortunately, after the heavy snowfall we had overnight, there are three spots of the race course where the base has been destroyed; therefore, it has been considered too dangerous to make a safe Downhill race." Gerdol said.
Due to incoming weather in Val D'Isere, the jury together with the local organising committee have decided to concentrate all the necessary forces on the downhill and then to reschedule it for tomorrow.
