FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships 2021 wrap up in Bansko

The 40th edition of the Alpine Junior Wolrd Ski Championships ended today in Bansko (BUL). A total of 179 competitors from 44 nations participated under perfect conditions at the Pririni Mountain in Bulgaria, one week after the men’s FIS Alpine World Cup races were staged on the same hill. The men’s and women’s competitions were staged completely separately as part of the Covid-19 protocols with a two-day break between their competitions.

The first race of the event was the men’s super G. Giovanni Franzoni (ITA) showed his class and won just ahead of Lukas Feuerstein (AUT) and Gael Zulauf (SUI). The five top racers were within only 17 hundredths of a second. The day after, the fight for the title was the same. Feuerstein made the most of his opportunity and relegated Franzoni to second place in his showpiece discipline. Norway's Kindem Kaspar came in third.

The men's slalom was also highly anticipated. Benjamin Ritchie left no stone unturned. He continued his streak after his 13th place at the FIS Alpine World Championships in Cortina and his victory in the last European Cup slalom. Taking the title ahead of the Janutin Fadri (SUI) in second place and Joschua Sturm (AUT) in third.

After a two day break the women faced lot of wind in the challenging super-G. The Austrian youngsters in speed, showed impressively and swept the podium. Wechner Lena won ahead of her teammates Kappauer Magdalena and Egger Magdalena.

The next day, Hanna Aronsson Elfman, the young talent from Sweden stormed to gold after finishing an unfortunate fourth place in yesterday’s super G. The silver medal was won by Marte Monsen from Norway and bronze went to Slovenian Neja Dvornik.

In today's slalom the title went to Italy's Sophie Mathiou ahead of Moa Bostroem Mussener (SWE), and bronze went to A.J. Hurt (USA).

Austria presenting itself as the strongest nation with 6 medals from 6 events (including two gold).
