Gut-Behrami grabs Altenmarkt-Zauchensee downhill
Jan 16, 2022·Alpine SkiingLara Gut-Behrami (SUI) triumphed in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee downhill for the first time this winter ahead of Kira Weidle (GER), taking her 34th World Cup victory. Gut-Behrami was a tenth faster than Weidle in her second win of the season after the first of two super-Gs in St. Moritz. Austria's Ramona Siebenhofer was a good four-tenths behind in third place.
Sofia Goggia, who had dominated the speed events this season, winning all three downhills and two super-Gs, lost her balance, slid down the slope and careened into the safety fence.
The Swiss champion made the difference in a technical section that was fatal to Sofia Goggia. She knew how to handle the long curves much better than German Kira Weible, who was 0'34 behind before the last run.
Sofia Goggia still leads the downhill standings ahead of American Breezy Johnson, who did not race.
