Having not yet placed on a podium so far this season, Henrik Kristoffersen (NOR), put in an incredible race today in the first giant slalom in Alta Badia, giving him his 24th World Cup victory. The Norwegian finished seventh in the first run after starting with bib 12. In the second run, it was clear  he was skiing with heart, and when he crossed the line, that he knew he’d put in a solid run.

Marco Odermatt (SUI), who has won the first two GS races of the season, was one of the favourites today. Especially, as he claimed the second-fastest time during the first run, only 0.02 seconds behind 2021 giant slalom World Champion, Matthieu Faivre (FRA).

Odermatt put in a valiant run to finish in second place, 0.31 seconds behind Kristoffersen. Favire, who was first after the first run, had a massive disappointment in the second run and dropped to 16th.

Manuel Feller had just enough to push fellow Austrian, Patrick Feurstein off the podium to claim third place for the second race in a row. It would have been Feurstein’s first World Cup podium.

Racing continues tomorrow at 10:00 CET with another GS on the Gran Risa in Alta Badia (ITA).
