Galmarini secures the overall title and Mastnak wins first World Cup.

Ester Ledecka came into the competition as the favorite and she did not disappoint. Ledecka crusied through the qualifications and first three rounds of the finals. But in the final she had her work cut out. “I could see Alena (Zavarzina) the whole way and I knew it would be tight” said Ledecka. And indeed it was with just 0.02 separating the two when they crossed the line.

With the victory Ladecka now adds the Parallel Giant Slalom crystal globe as well as the Womens Alpine Snowboard Tour Overall crystal globe to her trophy cabinet. But she is not done. Next week Ledecka will aim to do what she did at the Olympics and will fly to Are for the Alpine World Cup finals. Let see if they trophy cabinet has enough space.

Home town hero Nevin Galmarini went from Batman to Superman.

The Swiss super star came into the event as the favorite. In the qualifications Galmarini did not let the pressure get to him and he progressed through the rounds comfortably. But coming into the semi-finals he faced Polish young gun Oskar Kwiatkowski. Kwiatkowski produced the run of his life and relegated Galmarini to the small final. There, Galmarini beat Aaron March (ITA) and secured a 3rd place finish.

In the big final Kwiatkowski could not overcome Tim Mastnak (SLO). The Slovenean blitzed his way through the prior rounds and kept his cool to take the win. For Mastnak this was his first World Cup victory and for Kwiatkowski his first world cup podium.

The third place finish for Glamarini now gives him two World Cup globes. Not only does he win the Parallel Giant Slalom small globe but he also secures the Alpine Snowboarding Overall title. Galmarini said “To finish on the podium at my home mountain is special. But to win my first PGS title and first overall title here as well, words cannot describe how happy I am.”
