Iluykhina announces retirement
Aug 31, 2018·Snowboard AlpineEkaterina Ilyukhina has confirmed that she has been retiring from competitive snowboarding after 104 parallel World Cup races on the tour.
After placing 32nd in the first of two events in Bansko, Bulgaria last weekend, the Russian raceboarder called it the quits:
“I could not perform as I wanted in the final pre Olympic World Cup due to health reasons. I never thought to end my career so early but those circumstances decided everything for me. It might not be good for Russian sports but I'm OK with it,” she said.
The 30-year-old is looking back on a solid career in which she celebrated one top-3 result in the 2010 Limone Piemonte Parallel Slalom World Cup placing third.
2010, actually was her most successful year as the rider from Novosibirsk also clinched Olympic PGS silver in Vancouver.
Ilyukhina, who represented her home country at seven World Championships also raced in Sochi but wasn't able to tie on to her outstanding result from the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
