Joerg and Fischnaller win season's final PSL

The final stop of the Alpine Snowboard World Cup tour in Winterberg, Germany provided the expected close duels for both, the win in the parallel slalom staged on the Poppenberg slope and the PSL World Cup title.
Roland Fischnaller was able to clinch his career's third crystal globe winning the men's event ahead of Sebastian Kislinger (AUT) and Rok Marguc (SLO).
“I'm very pleased with the result. I knew I would have a chance if I could tie on to my training performances. That worked out pretty fine.
I was lucky claiming the title today but I'm proud of it as it means I can still keep up with the world's best although I'm almost 38,” Fischnaller stated.
While Fischnaller now has as many crystal globs under his belt as he has kids, Selina Joerg (GER) missed her career's first title by inches.
Although Joerg earned her career's second win on the circuit eleven years after her so far sole triumph (Nendaz 2007) and 13 years after debuting on the circuit in Winterberg back in 2005, the 30-year-old came 10 points short to bring home her first ever crystal globe finishing the season behind of today's fifth ranked rider Ekaterina Tudegesheva (1,700). The Russian racer therefore claimed her career's third.
“Coming short by 10 points in the race for the title is a little bit frustrating. The globe would have been the icing on the cake.I don't know what to say,” she said while also knowing that she is looking back on a great season which she wrapped up the best possible way.
“I didn't expect anything like this today. I was expecting worse conditions, and I normally don't do well in bad conditions. But when I won the qualifiers, I knew that there would be a chance to win today. Winning an home soil event is something very special.”
Today's PSL podium was rounded out by Alena Zavarzina (RUS) and Julie Zogg (SUI) as respective second and third.
Ester Ledecka (CZE) who skipped today's race due to back problems and Nevin Galmarini (SUI) had already secured the Alpine Snowboard Overall World Cup title prior to the season's finals in Germany.
“The season was crazy. It was even better than in my biggest dreams. The Overall World Cup title is very important for me. I always hoped to make it in the top-3 once, and now I won it. And then the Olympics. It's been an unbelievable winter for me,” said Galmarini in the finish.
And Ledecka explained: “The whole season went very well. I enjoyed every race. It's a pity that I couldn't compete today but my body needed a rest. It's been a lot of races and travelling.”
While today's fastest racers cheered in the finish area looking already forward to another exciting season, it was also time to say good-bye to several athletes.
2014 Olympic PSL champion Julia Dujmovits (AUT) confirmed that the PSL in Winterberg was her last ever single event on the circuit.
In addition, German racers Alexander Bergmann and Patrick Bussler also announced to retire after tomorrow's Team PSL which will close out the Alpine Snowboard World Cup season.
