The races on the Oetscher Mountain will therefore become the second ever resort in the Austria's in terms of surface biggest state.

While the late add-on to the 2017-18 calendar was first time announced during the FIS Autumn Meetings in Zurich beginning of August, things now got officially underway with a press conference.

Petra Bohuslav, Member of of the Lower Austria State Government said: “A majory event like the FIS Snowboard World Cup is an important economic and touristic factor for the whole region.”

And Andreas Buder, CEO of the Oetschtal Gondola, added with regards on the conditions at site: “The Distel Slope is the most attractive one in Lower Austria. The World Cup event will bring an additional boost to our resort and region.”

Especially as Local Organisers have Hochkar as a replacement resort in store if the weather wouldn't play into their hands beginning of next year. An ideal situation not only for Organisers but also for all national teams and riders as former ski star Michaela Dorfmeister outlines:

“It's one of the last races of the road to PeyongChang 2018, so everyone will be there to use Lackenhof for the Olympic qualifier process.”

On January 5th, 2018 a parallel giant slalom is slated to take place while the day after will bring the season's first of three team events.
