Unfortunately the PGS World Cup event in Carezza was cancelled after unseasonably warm temperatures turned the course into one bumpy ride. And despite the best efforts of course crews and organisers, the deterioration of the course meant that the jury was forced to call off the event, as it was impossible to run the competitions in a safe and fair manner.

Despite a promising start to the day with a solid first round of qualifications that saw athletes racing on satisfactory slope, rising temperatures through the day made conditions more and more challenging.

As soon as the second round of qualifications, many athletes began to have problems completing clean runs and with the temperatures well above zero degrees Celsius, the course crew were kept busy, trying to maintain the course in best possible way.

However, with so much moisture in the snow, grooves and bumps on course grew bigger and bigger. With 12 pairs of athletes through the 1/8th final including a couple of DNFs and a heavy crash from Russia’s rider Dmitriy Karlagachev, the jury stopped the competition.

After once more assessing the snow conditions, the jury made a decision do cancel the event.

Following the jury decision the FIS World Cup points won’t be awarded from the race in Carezza, though the FIS points will still be assigned based on qualifications’ results.

The FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup is now heading into the holiday break, and will return to action in the new year, with the next competition slated to go down on January 5-6 in Lackenhof (AUT).
