Monday Mix - July 6, 2020

Happy Monday and welcome to the first Mix of a new month! Our research department has informed us that July 6 is International Kissing Day, which normally would be cause for a romantic celebration but which this year might be have to be cancelled, unfortunately...you know, with the pandemic and all.

However, if a safe smooch isn't in the cards for you today, we've got the next best thing to warm your lonely heart - a look back at some of last week's best content from the world of snowboarding!

It's a big Mix this week, hitting all the corners of the globe, so to kick things off let's start with a public service demonstration on safe air travel with Mr. Pat Burgener. While not all methods shown in this video have been verified as effective, they have definitely been certified as funny, and a sense of humour is a valuable thing to have these days...

While there's no denying that skating with a mask + sunnies + guitar is a strong look, if you really want to get the internet's attention you're going to want to throw a cute dog into the mix. If you're not sure about the best approach to that crowd-pleaser, Chloe Trespeuch has you covered...

Actually, if we really think about it, we've gotta admit that the best way to get noticed on a skateboard is to be really, super, ludicrously good at it, like Dusty Henricksen. This one is simply too steezy for words...

Dusty's not the only one on the US squad who's been getting their board-riding fix in off the snow since the competition season came to an end, and over on the US Ski & Snowboard Team website they've got a good piece on how the likes of Lindsey Jacobellis, Chris Corning, Ty Schnorrbusch, Chase Blackwell, and a host of others are finding was to rip in the off-season...

With Mt Hood and Woodward Copper reopening for summer shredding in the last few days we're looking forward to plenty more fresh content coming out of both spots ASAP, like this cruise-y halfpipe ripper from Jason Wolle...

Oh yeah, some guy named Shaun White is there in Hood, too? We're going to do a little more research and see if we can dig up some info on him, but our first impression is that he might be pretty good at this snowboarding stuff...

Copper only just reopened yesterday, so while we wait to see all the good stuff that'll be coming out of there in the next few weeks we'll have to satisfy ourselves with this throwback to last year when Red Gerard was straight laying a beating on this picture-perfect booter...

Speaking of throwbacks, it was a big week for riders looking back to some shredding footage of the past, as you would expect as we move further into the hot months and away from time spent on snow for most people. Some of the throwbacks are fun, some of them are gnarly, and some of them are a little bit of both - like this one from the today's birthday boy Max Parrot...

Sindre Tveiten has got the "fun" part covered nicely with this line of pure good-vibes rail mastery (sound ON for extra vibes)...

Emiliano Lauzi knows that while a method defines a rider's style when you're up in the air, down closer to the ground it's the frontside boardslide, and he made this one all his own earlier this season at home in Seiser Alm...

And we've got a couple nice, snowy shots from the two top women in slopestyle this past season, with both Katie Ormerod and Laurie Blouin looking back to some chillier times with killer photos...

On the subject of sweet photos, here's three bangers from the German team's time at the Laax Open this past January...

Ok, now what exactly is this sourcery?? Featuring Kyle Mack (also a birthday boy today!) and edited by Mati Schmitt, this is maybe the coolest clip we saw all week...

Although, this clip of Mati himself getting pitted in Bariloche last weekend sure turned up the ol' stoke meter as well...

Let's hop over to Japan for a minute now, where Ikko Anai has been having some indoor halfpipe fun, while staying masked up and COVID-safe...

Meanwhile, over in Norway, Bendik Gjerdalen is getting the best of all worlds, enjoying the modern miracle of riding inside a giant refrigerator one day and hitting the fjord with the homies the next. This is L-I-V-I-N-G if we've ever seen it...

From Argentina to Japan to Norway and now let's cover a little more of the globe with a look in at Australia, where Matty Cox has been spotted ripping around Perisher in signature style...

Now let's take a minute to catch up with a little of the goings-on in the SBX world, where the French team just released an edit of the good times at their recent training camp in Val d'Isere...

Meanwhile, the Czech team (sans Eva Samkova) is on snow and looking stoked in Stelvio...

SBX Life continued their excellent weekly interview series by catching up with Canadian young gun Eliot Grondin last week, and you can find the full conversation below...

And while we don't know when or where this clip came from, we do know that Belle Brockhoff + fresh pow lines = us watching and getting stoked...

Also, we'll take this moment to recognize the career of Canada's Baptiste Brochu, who announced his retirement from competition over the weekend. With one World Cup victory at Veysonnaz back in 2016 and a sixth-place finish in team competition at the Utah 2018 world championships as career highlights, Baptiste will now be walking away from World Cup racing to focus on his university studies...

Now, over to the world of alpine SB, where things are very firmly settled into the routine of summertime training and summertime summertiming, and quite often a little bit of both at the same time, as with Alexander Payer and the reward he finds at the end of a three-hour hike in France...

Meanwhile, Alex's teammate Benny Karl appears to be locked in a strange battle with a massive truck tire...

While over in Germany Selina Joerg is satisfying her need for speed with a little downhill mountain biking. Stick around for the slick one-footer near the end...

Before we wrap things up this week, a big shout out to Lia-Mara Boesch, who recieved her trophy and medal for coming out on top of the Europa Cup season and earning herself a guaranteed spot on the World Cup tour season!

Also, we'd like to take a moment to announce that our final #ClassicsLive poll winner has been anounced, meaning that we'll be closing out the series with a look back to the 2008/09 season and the Bardoncchia (ITA) World Cup, where Matheiu Crepel (FRA) and Kelly Clark (USA) claimed the victories. The competition will be streaming on Facebook and YouTube beginning at 12:00 CET, and it should be a good one!
