Nadyrshina and Loginov win PSL gold medals at JWSC in Lachtal

After a big day of training sessions on Friday it was right into FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships competition on Saturday, with the preliminary heats of parallel slalom competition getting underway at 9:00 CET, followed by finals at 12:30.
Last season’s edition of the JWSC was cancelled due to the emerging Covid-19 pandemic, but Austria's Lachtal resort made its return as a top-flight alpine snowboarding venue on Saturday for the first time since 2015 when the resort played host to parallel competition as part of the Kreischberg 2015 FIS Snowboard and Freestyle Ski World Championships.
Already a proven venue for showcasing the world's best carvers, this season the next generation of alpine snowboarding's best put the Lachtal piste through its paces in the first of three races scheduled for this weekend.
In the women’s event it was Russia’s Sofia Nadyrshina, who managed to claim the gold medal, after she edged out Japan’s Tsubaki Miki in the big final matchup. Nadyrshina was coming into the event as one of the favourites for the win and she stood up to expectations, while claiming her career’s second Junior World Championships medal.
With the second place on Saturday, Tsubaki Miki continues her promising start into 2020/21, after the Japanese up-and-comer finished in top-10 at two first World Cup competitions of the season in Cortina d’Ampezzo and Carezza.
Kaylie Buck of Canada rounded out the women’s podium in third place after she came victorious against Zuzana Maderova of Czech Republic in the women’s small final.
On the men’s side of the event it was the double World Champion from Park City Dmitry Loginov of Russia, who climbed his way through to win his 5th Junior World Championships title. In the big final of Saturday’s competition Loginov won against Cody Winters of USA.
For 20-year-old Winters his second place-finish in Lachtal’s PSL event was without a doubt the biggest success in his young career.
Third place on the day went to Gian Casanova of Switzerland, who edged out Canada’s Michael Nazwaski in the small final matchup.
Junior World Championships action in Lachtal continues on Sunday with parallel giant slalom qualifications starting at 9:00 and finals following up in the afternoon at 12:30.
