Cologna wins Seefeld 15 km
Aug 31, 2018·Cross-Country(Seefeld, Austria) Switizerland's Dario Cologna has won the 15 km free technique mass start in Seefeld, Austria. The final World Cup competition before the start of the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, Korea. It was his first weekend back on World Cup since he won his 4th FIS Tour de Ski title in early January.
Cologna attacked the field on the final big climb of the 3.75 km course and no one was able to respond. Canada's Alex Harvey and Martin Johnsrud Sundby of Norway were also able to break away and finished second and third respectively.
ATHLETE QUOTES
Martin Johnsrud Sundby NOR
It was not a good race for me today. It's a disappointing feeling just two weeks before the Olympics.
Alex Harvey CAN
It was a very fast pace right from the beginning. I think I was back in around 15th with Cologna and Sundby both. But after the initial shock I was able to move my way back up to the front. I have just come from high altitude so I have fatigue in my body so second place today is a great result. I had really fast skis which always helps.
Dario Cologna SUI
I was tired from the sprint yesterday. Usually I don't have such a long day with sprints. With the fast pace from the start I wasn't quite ready for it. But I moved up when I could and knew that the final big hill would be the place to try and win the race. It's good to know that since the Tour de Ski my shape is still at a high level and I'm happy heading into the Olympics.
