CAREER

Devon Kershaw continued his historic run in 2012 when he became the first Canadian male to finish second overall on the World Cup circuit. Kershaw’s incredible season included winning two World Cup races in addition to adding another silver and three bronze medals to his career total. Devon also finished fourth overall on the 2012 Tour de Ski.
Devon first skied his name into the history books in 2011 with teammate, Alex Harvey, as the Canadian duo joined forces to become the first Canadian males to win a medal at the World Championships when they won gold in the team sprint race in Oslo, Norway. The post-Olympic year was a stellar campaign for the leader of the Canadian men’s program. Devon proved he is one of the most consistent all-round skiers in the world when he finished eighth overall on the World Cup. Devon’s historic season also saw him become the third Canadian male ever to win a World Cup race during a thrilling Tour de Ski where he captured one gold, two silver and a bronze medal.
Emerging into the most successful men’s skier of all time in the Canadian program, Devon has enjoyed steady progress during his 11-year career on the senior squad. The two-time Olympian, and his Canadian teammates, captured the nation’s attention at Whistler Olympic Park in 2010 when three of them finished in the top-10 in the Olympic pursuit race. While delivering seven top-10 performances as a team throughout the Games, Devon put down one of the gutsiest efforts of the Olympics when he missed the podium by a fraction of a second to finish fifth in the 50-kilometre classic-ski race on the final day of the Games.
Days removed from competing in his first Olympic Winter Games in 2006, Devon solidified himself internationally as an explosive sprinter when he became the first Canadian male to achieve a sprint podium result with a bronze-medal performance in Borlange, Sweden – and only the second Canadian male ever to reach the World Cup podium. This groundbreaking result blazed the trail for the Canadian men’s squad who are now a force to reckon with internationally.

PERSONAL

Growing up in the Northern Ontario city of Sudbury, Devon’s parents were instrumental in developing and nurturing a love of the natural environment and active lifestyle – both of which are cornerstones of his life today. An active Canadian sport enthusiast growing up playing hockey, volleyball, badminton, tennis and running competitively, Devon skied for Laurentian Nordic as a junior where he represented Canada at three World Junior Championships (2000-2002), and won 18 national junior titles. Devon’s career took off after moving to Canmore to be a full-time member of the National Ski Team.
An excitable person on and off the ski trails, Devon stays busy playing in the mountains, sipping cappuccinos with friends, playing guitar and taking photos. Beyond skiing Devon plans to return to school to pursue a degree in medicine, with the eventual goal of becoming a doctor specializing in sports medicine.
