Highlights of FIS Rollerski World Championships, Sweden tops rankings

In total, 16 medal events in junior and senior classes were scheduled for the 2017 FIS Rollerski World Championships in Sollefteå (SWE). To the great joy of the local fans, the host nation claimed an impressive 21 medals and topped the nations ranking to set a new record.

Linn Soemskar was one of the biggest winners of the Championships winning four medals including three golds. Soemskar dominated the opening interval start, took bronze in the sprint and won two additional gold medals in the mass start and team sprint together with Maja Dahlqvist.

In the men's category, Anders Svanebo led the Swedish team with two medals. Svanebo took gold in the opening 22 km interval free and silver in the 20 km mass start classic where he was beaten only by young Russian Alexander Bolshunov. Italian Emanuele Becchis proved to be one of the best rollerskiing sprinters and took gold in the sprint free. On the last day of the Championships, Norway earned gold in the men’s team sprint ahead of Sweden and Slovakia.
