(Toblach, Italy) Sweden's Charlotte Kalla got back to her winning ways in Toblach, Italy with her victory in the ladies' 10 km free technique interval start competition.  Kalla was second at all the intermediate timing points behind Norway's Heidi Weng - the early pace setter - until the one that matters most at the finish line.  She eclipsed Weng's 3rd place time by 13.8 seconds.  Ragnhild Haga of Norway picked up speed as she went along with an early split in 9th position and finally settled out in second place just +5.8 seconds behind Kalla.

Tomorrow's 10 km pursuit in classic technique will see 5 Norwegian athletes heading out within 30 seconds of Kalla the lone Swede.

ATHLETE QUOTES

Charlotte Kalla (SWE)

I worked a lot in the summer on skiing fast on the flats. I knew it was important here in Toblach. I love racing here. It was nice to see it worked. I had amazing skis, the team did amazing job, I had great fun skiing today, when I felt my body was responding so well.

Ragnhild Haga (NOR)

The race was very fast. It was really a hard course. It was important to pace myself. I wanted to go fast in the last lap. Second place gives me a good position in tomorrow’s pursuit.

Heidi Weng (NOR)

I’m satisfied with my performance today. I've always had a hard time on this track, but the last few kilometers were really tough today. I had the impression that I could hardly move. However, the result of the race showed me that despite all the problems I can keep up with the best. I can build on that.
