(Ulrichen, January 29, 2018) The U23 World Championships in the sprint were all about the Norwegian team.
Tiril Udnes Weng, the cousin of Heidi Weng, dominated the women's race and secured the gold medal in the sprint discipline after winning the Park City 2017 Skiathlon. Nadine Fähndrich, who had already been runner-up in Park City last year, again won the silver medal.
In the men's race, the superior Norwegians even managed a triple win by Erik Valnes ahead of Jan Thomas Jenssen and Even Northug. The fourth final rank of Beda Klee was another highlight from the Swiss point of view.
Nadine Fähndrich decided during the season planning to run the U23 World Championships in Goms. The Lucerne woman arrived only the day before and had a rather queasy feeling during the qualification. From run to run but she was able to increase and ran in the final round to their best form.
"I'm very happy with my performance and will do a few races here and then prepare for the Olympics, so it's fantastic to run against this backdrop!"
