Oberstdorf is a municipality with around 9.500 inhabitants and the southernmost village in Germany, located in the Allgäu, a region of the Bavarian Alps. Oberstdorf, which lies within a valley 815 meter above sea level, is a popular place for skiing and hiking and is one of the biggest tourist destinations in Bavaria. The 7 idyllic valleys and the surrounded mountains, which are up to 2,600 m high, show the extraordinary position as a hiking destination. In summer a total of 200 km hiking trails on three different altitudes offer a diversified alpine landscape with routes and tours of every difficulty.
Even in winter numerous guests come to Oberstdorf in order to go hiking. 140 km of cleared trails and panoramic walks wait for visitors. 128 km of slopes and 76 miles of cross-country ski-tracks won’t leave any wish unfulfilled. In addition, there is the well-known two-country skiing region “Oberstdorf-Kleinwalsertal” within five skiing regions. Next to 10 cable cars, 14 chair lifts and 23 T-bars.
COMPETITION SITE
The Cross Country Stadium in Ried is located in the south of Oberstdorf. The short distance to the center of Oberstdorf with only 5 minutes by car and 15 minutes to walk is one big advantage of the Cross Country Stadium. The Stadium was built up in 2003/2004 for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 and therefore also the snow making system was installed for over 12 km slopes. The Stadium itself offers space for 10.000 spectators and additional 15.000 spectators on the track. In the Stadium attractive tribune places will be installed. For the Tour de Ski stages in Oberstdorf there are demanding courses for the skiathlon and the pursuit in free technique. With the legendary climb „Burgstall“ the athletes can expect one oft he most challenging sections oft he world cup courses. In the stadium and in addition the spectators in the stadium have a perfect view on the video wall. An attractive and extensive side program will complete the “adventure” in the Cross Country Stadium Ried in Oberstdorf.

At the restaurant “Dampfbierbrauerei”, the southernmost brewery in Germany, you can experience Bavarian tradition, original savory cuisine, daily live music and a special self-made beer.

Restaurant „Jagdhaus“: In this royal bavarian restaurant you can taste regional cuisine with seasonal specialities: from the festive soup on fresh chanterelles with bread dumplings to delicious Königsschmarr. Even Prinzregent Luitpold from Bavaria had celebrated many times in the heart of Oberstdorf.
Gasthof „Laiter“ – the „Laiter“ from the 16th century offers regional specialities in a rustic guestroom. Here you get the best „Kässpatzen“ from Oberstdorf, trouts of an own pond and venison with best quality.

HOW TO GET TO OBERSTDORF
The municipality of Oberstdorf is easily accessible by road, rail and air. Via the close airports in Munich, Stuttgart and Zurich, there are world wide connections. In July 2007, the Allgäu region got its own airport in Memmingen (Allgäu Airport). Oberstdorf is easily and quickly accessible by car due to a well connected road network. Through the extension of the B19 with an additional lane on both sides in September 2009 until Sonthofen, an even faster journey to Oberstdorf is guaranteed. Of course Oberstdorf is also accessible via public transport (bus and railway) from all over Germany and the neighbouring states. A journey by railway from the larger railway stations in Germany to Oberstdorf is fast and easy, using Inter-City (IC) trains.
