On the sixth day of the competition, the cross-country paradise Goms showed itself again in the sunlight. The scenery for the two high-level and exciting races in the ski-biathlon was once again true. It was the Russians who dominated the race from start to finish and celebrated a threefold victory.
New World Champion Anastasia Sedova distanced her team-mates Natalia Nepryaeva and Yana Kirpichenko by 10.7 and 37.2 seconds, respectively. Sedova and Nepryaeva will travel from the Goms to Pyeongchang for the Winter Olympics.
Denis Spitsov, also qualified for Pyeongchang, lived up to his role as a favorite. In the last climb, he decided the race against the sensational Frenchman Jules Lapierre. Responding to his tactics, the beaming winner admitted calmly: "I had no race tactics, I trusted in my final speed." The surprising Frenchman saw his achievement rewarded with the silver medal at the finish. "I won silver and did not miss gold," mused the 22-year-old. Ole Joergen Bruvoll (NOR) was able to intercept the Russian Ivan Yakimushkin in the finish and secured the bronze medal. From the Swiss point of view, Lydia Hiernickel set the twelfth final rank and the Toggenburg Beda Klee the eighth final rank.
