Norway's Anna Svendsen and Ristomatti Hakola of Finland have won the 1.4 km classic sprint competitions in Muonio, Finland.  Both were also day's top qualifiers.  Svendsen qualified with an impressive 2.93 second lead over second place qualifier Natalia Nepryaeva of Russia.  Nepryaeva also followed Svendsen across the line in the finals for second place on the day.  In third was Poland's Justyna Kowalczyk.

Hakola bested the men's field in the qualifier by 0.73 seconds ahead of Russia's Alexander Bolshunov and like the women's results the men's 1-2 in qualification were the same 1-2 in the final.  Andrey Parfenov of Russia rounded out the men's final podium in third place.

Competitions continue tomorrow with 5/10 km classic events.
