Aug 31, 2018·Cross-CountryOfficial press release by FIS Nordic Junior and U23 Cross Country World Ski Championships 2018
(Ulrichen, January 28, 2018) In bright weather and pleasant temperatures, the pleasingly large number of spectators were offered cross-country skiing at a high level. The kick-off of the FIS Nordic Junior World Championships in the Goms brought some surprises. So some favorites, especially from Russia, fell by the wayside. From the Swiss point of view, the surprising bronze medal of the 17-year-old Davos Valeria Grond, who had to bow in the final run to the Frenchman Tom Mancini and the Norwegian Joergen Lippert, was sensational.
For the ladies, the final run became a purely Nordic duel. The winner was the Swede Moa Lundgren in front of the Norwegian Kristine Skistad Stavaas and Frida Karlsson (SWE).
Winner Moa Lundgren had a clear plan and wanted to decide the decision in each case in the rough ascents: "I have done very well and I am of course pleased that my plan went well." The young Swede won in qualifying and in her other races, which earned her the deserved World Cup title.
