Sweden and Italy win Dresden Team Sprints
Aug 31, 2018·Cross-Country(Dresden, Germany) Day two of the World Cup weekend in Dresden featured the Team Sprint competition. The Swedish II team (Ingemarsdotter, Dahlqvist) won just ahead of the Swedish I team (Falk, Nilsson) by 0.15. Sophie Caldwell of the USA I team crossed the line in a finish with Nilsson but after the photo finish review they were separated by 0.07 seconds. Today's ladies team sprint podium match the same nation results from the sprint the day before with Sweden 1-2 and USA in 3rd.
On the men's side it was Italy's Federico Pellegrino with the big move on the small climb (this time from the left side) before the finish that brought Italy I (Noeckler, Pellegrino) to the top of the podium. In second place was the veteran duo from Sweden I (Peterson, Joensson) +1.07 back from Italy with Russia I (Krasnov, Retivykh) +1.23 off the lead.
ATHLETE QUOTES
Maja Dahlqvist (SWE)
Ida gave me the best position. I was skiing well all the way and had
some energy left for the sprint. I was so happy when I realised we
were first. It is amazing.
Stina Nilsson (SWE)
We’re happy with the result, it is good to have two Swedish teams on
the podium again. There was a great atmosphere.
Sophie Caldwell (USA)
We’re really happy with today. Team events are a ton of fun and you
never know what’s going to happen on a course like this. It was
awesome to be right in the mix and we’re always thrilled to earn a spot
on the podium.
Federico Pellegrino (ITA)
I had space again on the small hill. I took it. It is great to win with Didi.
Emil Joensson (SWE)
I had a lot of fun skiing today. It is great to be back on the podium again.
Gleb Retivykh (RUS)
I was really upset yesterday about my performance. I wanted to do
better in the team sprint. We were able to maintain in the leading group
and before the final sprint I was in a good position. Federico was again
strong but it feels great to be on the podium.
