FIS Scandinavia Cup kicked off in Vuokatti on Friday with free technique distance races. The day was dominance by Norwegian athletes as they swept the podiums in both women’s and men’s race. Tiril Udnes Weng and Daniel Stock were the winners.

Weng won by 19.7 seconds ahead of Lovise Heimdal.

”The race was good and my skis were really fast and it was really fun to ski. On this course you have to go fast all the way, no time for rest. 10 km skating is my favorite distance but I hope to go well tomorrow in sprint also. Sprint skating is also good for me”, Weng said.

Stock won by 10 seconds ahead of Sindre Björnestad Skar.

”It was a good race. I started as second man in the first group so I thoght I have to go fast so the guys behind me will think it would be hard to beat me. My skis were good and my shape was also very good, it was actually almost a perfect race. I am not surprised (that I won) but very happy”, Stock said.

FIS Scandinavia Cup continues in Vuokatti until Sunday. Conditions are almost as perfect as they can get in Finland in December with a lot of snow and some minus degrees celcius. Throughout the 3-day event new race courses are being tested.
