Niskanen's most likely to be the first ever siblings to stand on the podium on the same day at the FIS Cross-Country World Cup!

"With ever minute the snow got softer and softer and one really needed some good ski's today", Alexander Bolshunov reported after winning todays 15km in Classic style at the World Cup in Cogne. Not confirmed by the archives but most likely so, history was made by the Niskanen siblings Kerttu and Iivo who both stood on the podium on the same race day.

Alexander Bolshunov (RUS) clearly was the strongest athlete on the field on the 3x5km Classic loop in sunny Aosta valley. With a margin of +43.7 seconds, he finishes the race at 34:48.4 minutes. 2nd placed Iivo Niskanen (FIN) was equally surprised as his sister Kerttu (winner of the ladies 10km 2h earlier that day) to have reached the podium. Despite showing a strong performance, he still assumed to be overtaken by the strong competitor field. With 35:32.1, he was however still +12.2 seconds faster than the 3rd ranked Alexander Bessmertnykh (RUS).

A fantastic weekend at the FIS Cross-Country World Cup in Cogne ends with spectacular racing, sunshine and a wonderful crowd of spectators. Find all results
