The FIS Nordic Junior and U23 Cross-Country World Ski Championships are approaching fast, and preparations are going well.

The last changes to the tracks were made in early December and a brand-new track was added to Lahti’s portfolio. Competition Manager Hannu Lehman: "The new track was homologated by FIS on the 7thDecember. It is was built on two different routes, because the U20 ladies have an unusual skiing distance of 3,3 kilometres”, Lehman said about the process.

The new track in Salpausselkä will definitely be a challenge for the young athletes competing in Lahti and will be of good use to the organisers in the future. “This is a World Cup level track with the longest climb of 41 meters and a total altitude difference of 136 meters. If we have World Cup relays in the future, this is a good track for it. So, it’s definitely a tough route”, Lehman is sure. "It is quite unusual, as normally in relays classic and free legs of the track go different routes, but here they are side by side.”
Some of the young athletes will be treading on familiar paths at the Junior World Championships as  all other tracks are identical with the ones used in the Lahti 2017 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.

Preparations for the upcoming event are ongoing and everything is proceeding according to plan. "The situation is really good, we will see great competitions”, Lehman promises. The FIS Nordic Junior and U23 Cross Country World Ski Championships take place from 20thto 27thJanuary 2019 in Lahti (FIN).
