Cross Country to take over next Olympic venue | FIS Cross Country

XC athletes will land in Korea to compete in the first ever Cross-Country Skiing World Cup held on Korean soil from February 3rd till February 5th. The best founders of the circuit will have the chance to test the Alpensia tracks by taking part in a Sprint, Skiathlon and Team Sprint events. Norway's Martin Johnsrud Sundby now leads Russia's Ustyugov by 344 points after the last World Cup stage in Falun as fellow countrywoman Heidi Weng stands top of the Ladies' standings with Finn Krista Parmakoski 316 points adrift. Cross-country skiing originated in Fennoscandian countries in prehistoric times. It was still widely practiced in the 19th century as a way of moving from place to place in winter. As a sport, cross-country skiing is one of the most difficult endurance sports, as its motions use every major muscle group. Modern cross-country ski competition is experiencing a revolution that is resulting in greater compatibility with audiences which began with the addition of the Sprint event to the World Cup and Olympic competitions in 2002.
