Podium shot of today's 30 km in Freestyle

Sjur Roethe claims his second win of the Coop FIS Cross-Country World Cup season 20/19, and his 3rd overall. After his success at the 15km Freestyle in Lillehammer, Sjur Roethe's triumph continues. The race pace was set by his Norwegian team colleagues Sundby and Toenseth who started the race off by a powerful performance. Sundby thus lead the first half of the race. After 20km however, the times balanced out and Roethe sensed his chance for another podium finish and was able to create and maintain the gap to his following group. Roethe crossed the finish line in 1:09:53.5. Second finished Martin Johnsrud Sundby +35.2 seconds behind, followed by Russian Andrey Melnichenko + 49.2 behind the winner. „During the race in different splits I got some information that I was around the 6th place and actually did not expect anything more than that, " said Melnichenko, for whom the 3rd rank was the first ever World Cup podium.

„I felt pretty good at the start. I was few seconds behind Martin and Didrik out from the start and it looked like they are doing a sprint today. I felt very confident at the beginning of the race but looking at them taking up a high pace right from the start, I was unsure if I should change my pacing strategy.“Sjur Røthe
„I had a strong start but felt that between 10 and 20 km. It would be surprising, if some of the other nations would be much better than us. We know the course, we have competed here for 10 years so we sure have some seconds in our favor.“Martin Johnsrud Sundby
„During the race in different splits I got some information that I was around the 6th place and actually did not expect anything more than that.“Andrey Melnichenko
