That World Cup look | INSIDE THE FENCE | FIS Cross Country

Aug 23, 2018·Cross-Country

FIS MAG or FIS Marketing Agency. They are the ones who week in and week out give us the look of a World Cup venue. To say it's a long season for them is an understatement. We followed them around recently in partnership with our friends FIS Nordic Combined at Holmenkollen to get an idea of what it takes to make a World Cup look like a World Cup. FIS MAG STATS: Travel: By Car = 35’430 km, By Ferry= 25’804 km, By Plane = 250’000 km SET UP TIME: Built up approx = 3 days, Dismantling approx = 3h Number of races: 16 WC’s = 33 race days & 66 races Number of countries: 10 (FIN, NOR, FRA, SUI, ITA, GER, SWE, KOR, EST, CAN) Cross-country skiing originated in Fennoscandian countries in prehistoric times. It was still widely practiced in the 19th century as a way of moving from place to place in winter. As a sport, cross-country skiing is one of the most difficult endurance sports, as its motions use every major muscle group. Modern cross-country ski competition is experiencing a revolution that is resulting in greater compatibility with audiences which began with the addition of the Sprint event to the World Cup and Olympic competitions in 2002.
