Track building update of FIS Cross-Country World Cup Québec

Quebec City, Friday, February 14, 2020 – With exactly one month to go before the COOP FIS Cross-Country World Cup gets underway March 13–15 in Quebec City, the organizers are pleased to announce that the course building team has been hard at work for a week already to get the Plains of Abraham ready for the world’s elite cross-country ski athletes. Event producer Gestev has been pulling out all the stops to deliver nothing but the best quality snow on the course, and will now be tracksetting for the next few weeks to ensure flawless groomed terrain for not only this world-class competition, but also the most promising young athletes of tomorrow competing in the COOP Mini World Cup.

COURSE DETAILS

  • Sprint course distance: 1,467 metres (one lap)

  • Course width: varies from 6 to 9 metres

  • Elevation gain: 41 metres

  • Start and finish lines on the Plains of Abraham

  • 20,000 metres3 of snow needed to fill the course

  • 300 hours of grooming needed to prepare the course

  • Average gradient of first climb: 12%

  • Average gradient of second climb: 16%

  • Highest gradient of climb on the course: 23%
